Biography

Dr. Mavis Owusuaa Osei-Wusu is a molecular biologist, lecturer, and rice breeder at the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement, University of Ghana. Her research applies biotechnology and molecular tools to develop climate-resilient and nutrient-efficient cereal varieties, focusing on salinity tolerance and beneficial plant–fungal interactions. She has secured competitive funding from UNESCO-TWAS, the Mastercard Foundation, and the University of Cambridge Climate Resilience and Sustainability Research Fund. Through collaborations with ICRISAT, AfricaRice, and the Cambridge Crop Science Centre, she advances crop improvement and capacity building. She aspires to integrate doubled-haploid technology and CRISPR-based genome editing to accelerate the development of resilient varieties
